Having always had a creative side to my personality, it was a natural decision to study textiles at A level. This gave me freedom to express my individuality and my interests in creating original textural pieces. In my spare time i enjoy rummaging through charity and second hand shops for fashion gems i can personalise and rekindle.

There are a number of reasons that i feel i would be suited for Manchester Metropolitan University's 'Textiles in Practice', the first being the reputation of this course. I'm sure my skills and dedication would be harnessed by the teaching and facilities which the course provides. Secondly i feel the content of the course will enhance the areas i am currently studying and expand my knowledge in new techniques.

Images 1-6 include my recent unit 3 A2 textiles work, the topic being recycling. The images include samples which i have experimented using different techniques in creating collages from recycled objects and materials, the main methods being applique and embroidery. Some inspiration for this projects came from textile artists such as Jennifer collier and Liza green.

Images 7 and 8 include fashion pieces I have created using textile techniques. Image 7 is my final piece for my unit 1 project, under the microscope, focusing on cells and the different colour pallets which they include. Image 8 is one of my personalised creations of a monochrome blouse which i detailed with a ruff.

Images 9 and 10 are samples from my unit 2 project urban decay, focusing on the textures and colours formed within rust. Techniques which i used in these include layering of material such as tyvek for a flaking effect as well as felting and hand embroidery throughout.

Images 11 and 12 are mixed media images which i created outside of college. Image 11 is from my life drawing class which i completed at Cleveland college of art and design, this was to improve my drawing skills as well as complementing my studies when creating garments. Lastly image 11 being a piece of fashion illustration i created from one of my favourite designers.
